Sequoia Hymn

Sequoians may we ever stand
     As stands our patron tree,
With heads uplifted to the sky,
     In earth well-rooted we;

With strength to battle every foe,
     With love to shelter flowers,
Sequoians may we ever live
As lives this tree of ours.

And can you believe that we used to sing about our Sequoia Gang?  You can bet that they don't sing the Sequoia Gang song today!

Sequoia Gang

When a Sequoia Gang walks down the street,
They are a hundred per from head to feet,
They have a welcome smile and a winning way,
And when you see them you will recognize them,
      and you’ll say,

“Now there’s a gang I’d like to know,
They have that old school spirit pep and go!”

Well now it’s quite a treat, and it’s hard to beat
A Gang from Sequoia High!

Go Getem' Cherokees

Go Go Go Go Go Getum' Cherokees!
Go Go Go Go Go Getum' Cherokees!
Go Go Go Go Go Getum' Cherokees!
Fight on for your Sequoia!
Go Getum' Cherokees!

(remember that the boys get to chant the Go Go Go's)

 And here's a silly joke:
This joke has been going around on the Internet.  I post it with apologies to our own dentist classmate.
Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, “Surely I can’t look that old?”

I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist. I noticed his DDS diploma, which bore his full name.

Then I remembered a tall, handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 49 years ago. Could he be the same guy that I had a secret crush on, way back then?

Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought.

This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate. After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended Sequoia High School in Redwood City, CA.

“Yes, yes I did. I’m a Cherokee!” He gleamed with pride.

“When did you graduate?” I asked.

He answered, “In 1960. Why do you ask?”

“You were in my class!” I exclaimed.

He looked at me closely.

Then that ugly,

Old,
Bald,
Wrinkled,
Gray haired,
Decrepit,
Creep asked….

“What did you teach?”
