From Jose Herrera and wife Isabel
Sorry we, my wife and I, will not be able to join you this 55th year reunion, hopefully those of you that attend have a wonderful time. Happy anniversary from Phoenix from Jose and Isabel Herrera

From Judy Seely Kirk and John Kirk
June 27 2010
John retired from CSM (economics and much union work ---AFT) two years ago. I retired from Sequoia 5 years ago, where I moved from Redwood City School District after 27 years (teaching and admin.). We have a son in IT in Silicon Valley, married to a wonderful woman (marketing/PR in SF), living in San Carlos --- lovely for us. Our daughter is in politics (chief of staff of district office of Speaker of NY City Council) in Manhattan and lives in Brooklyn, a place we absolutely love! John's parents, 96 and 95, still live at home here in RC, play bridge, and stay busy. My mom is 90, living at her home and volunteering at the sr. center in RC; she just came back from a trip to NY with my sister and me.

My husband, Steve, and I are looking forward to the reunion coming right up. I hope to see a lot of you again. The 50th was so much fun. I see Marlene Zanardi fairly often at musical events as we are both "Friends" of our local performing arts center in Manassas. She looks great! Thanks to Leone and all the committee for all the hard work they do to make these reunions happen! See you soon!

I graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla WA in 1964 and promptly married my college sweetheart, Evan Thomas (Paly Hi 1959).  He joined the Navy in 1963, and we were only stationed in California at the beginning of his career, never again living in the west.  Ever since we've either lived on the East Coast or overseas (Morocco, Scotland, Japan).  We celebrated our 50th last year (August) in Niagara Falls!  We've lived in Maryland for 36 years, which is a sort of back to the roots move for us in that Evan's family first settled in Maryland in the 17th century.  Sorry to miss the reunion again...

Necdet was our Turkish Field Service student. After graduating from Sequoia he went to San Jose State and then went to work for IBM, where he worked for 41 years! (It was legal back then to change an exchange visa to a foreign student.)  I went to Sequoia for my first 2 years and then was transferred to San Carlos when it opened, just before my junior year. We married in 1964 and raised 2 sons while I was teaching school. We have 4 grandchildren now, take care of my 98-year-old mother and visit the family in Turkey every year. Necdet and Carol Erez

Ray and I married for 48 years this past July. After graduation he joined the Navy for 7 1/2 years. Was on a Nuclear Sub and then taught sub school in Idaho Falls. I attended 1 year of college in Chicago and we were married in 1962. Have 1 daughter and 1 son. 6 grandkids and a new great grandbaby girl as of this past July. After leaving the service we moved to San Jose and Ray worked for GE in the Nuclear field for 33 years. I worked for the Emporium for 18 years during that time. He retired , sold our home and moved into our summer cabin at Lake Almanor. Soon purchased another lot and built the home we are currently living in. No street lights, no side walks and no traffic lights in our little town. Just the stars at night. Ray's on the golf course as much as his back will let him, he shoots in the mid 70's. I prefer to work in the yard and cross stitch. Last year I had a triple by-pass and Ray is looking at neck surgery in the near furture. So looking forward to the reunion. Thanks to Leone and all who took the time to plan this special event. See you in a couple of days.

What an amazing website.   I hope to stop by reunion for a quick visit on Saturday evening.  I have my three sisters with me in San Francisco for a visit.  One is my sister from France,  we  did not know we had until 12 years ago and we found each other two years ago.  It is a wonderful story.I live on Whidbey Island in Washington six months and La Quinta CA for the warmer season.   Richard and I have been married 18 years and have a wonderful combined family. My precious mom passed away this past April, which has been very hard.  Memories of Taft until my junior year at Sequoia were all with her precious guidance and love.We opened a Sculpting Non-Profit studio a little over a year ago in La Quinta .  I found sculpting two years ago, to be very helpful after my parents had to move from our home after 10 years into assisted living.  And many of all ages and stages seem to love it too.www.oldtownartisanstudio.org  Video makes me look 90 years old, but it helps me explain that I want the studio to remain even after I pass on  (:   I look forward to seeing many of you this coming weekend. Vicki Ball (:

I'm sorry to say that I will not be making the reunion this year.  Had a prior commitment in Calif. a couple of weeks ago.  I'm still living back East in Virginia which has become home for me, but still manage at least one trip a year to CA to see family.

I wish everyone great fun at the reunion because I know lots of work goes into planning these events.  I so enjoyed the 45th a few years ago.

"50 years" I still can't believe it! Thanks to Leone & all the committee for making this reunion possible!! I must say the website is amazing and I have been enjoying it thoroughly!  Please sign the guest book as it is so much fun reading what everybody has been doing during these years after Sequoia!!My life since Sequoia and CSM has been great!  I met a wonderful Paly guy, Rockney Hansen (also a 1960 graduate).  We will attend his 50th class reunion in September. We have been married for 48 years and have 4 wonderful children, two girls, two boys. We have two beautiful grandchildren, a boy & a girl, who we love to spend time with and spoil rotten. We love to travel and have just returned home from Prague, the Czech Republic (beautiful place).  We were there with our family attending our second son's amazing wedding.  He has finally settled down with a special girl after all his years of modeling.  He was male model of the year for 2002 in France.  We are extremely proud of him, as we are of all our children. We now live in Reno, Nevada.  We are enjoying life, family and friends.  The reunion should be fun, looking forward to seeing everyone.P.S.  I can relate to Nancy Turnrose Boone's comment on a husband with an antelope tag as my husband also has one and is very excited about his hunt, but luckily he is coming with me!!  His reunion date is more conflicting with his hunt than mine!

Let's see, what have I done since those great years at Sequoia.  After graduation, I attended CSM and San Jose State, graduating in 1966.  At SJS, I met the lovely Dianna Coney from Willow Glen High School, she became Mrs. Hernandez in 1968.
I retired from the federal government in 1994, and we currently live in Centennial, Colorado,  just outside Denver.  We have three children, Kevin, a Golf Course Superintendent, Eric a Doctor and Kristy a Geo-Science Tech. We have two grand-sons, Jack, 4 and Kaiden 3 mos and our third is expected in February.

Along the way, I continued my musical interests, doing Community Theater and singing in Choral groups.  30 years ago, I helped start a Theatrical group that does theater for the Physically and Mentally Disabled.  "Magic Moments" continues productions to this day.

While at Sequoia, I had a Dance Band "The Esquires."  I know we  played for at least one of our Reunion's either the 5th or the 10th or maybe both.  The years have faded my memory.  Does anyone out there remember??

See y'all at the 50th!!

Hello Sequoia High Classmates,

I had planned to attend the class reunion this year, but was not able to progress as far in my rehabilitation as I had hoped. I have made much progress since the badly failed bypass surgery of my left vertebral artery, but I am not quite ready for a trip of that magnitude at this time.

Back in April of 2007, I suffered a dissected left vertebral artery. I was flown by helicopter to Harborview hospital in Seattle and operated on 4 days later. As a result of the surgery, I was in a coma for 4 weeks and given little hope of recovery.  Little did they know that this little Sequoia had different ideas!

It’s now 3 and a half years later and I am now walking with my therapist (husband Dennis) about 500’ to 1000’ each day. I start therapy at 8:00 AM and, with the exception of a 1 hour nap, I finish at 5:30 PM. I have a semi-paralysis of my right hand and right leg. With therapy, I plan to regain full use of both. I have a lady named Rose work with me 3 hours a day, 5 days a week on cognitive and verbal skills. My speech improves daily as does my left handed art skills. I am fortunate to have her. The brain has an incredible ability to repair & rewire itself when given proper therapy.

Again, I will miss you all and am already looking forward to the 1015 reunion.

The best to you all,

JoAnne (Digrande) Dille

Well, this is quite a year.  Celebrating 50 years since  the Sequoia graduation and 50 years of marriage to my highschool sweetheart, Jerry. (he graduated from Sequoia in '57)  We have two children, Carleen and Anthony.  Jerry and I shared a career as Real Estate brokers.  We are now semi-retired and living at Sun City Lincoln Hills, northwest of Sacramento.  We are enjoying life and all the activities there.  Believe it or not we even ventured into the perfoming world which is something we always talked about.  I am looking forward to this very special occasion.

I've meandered about. The States of Arizona and California have put asunder my two marriages, and I now typically list my marital status as "single". After I visited Assisi in Italy, I thought becoming a Franciscan Monk might be a good career path but, instead, I chucked my engineering job at Applied Biosystems in Foster City and moved to Sebastopol, CA. That's where old Hippies go to die, and where I now live Far from the Madding Crowd, in Splendid Isolation. Getting from age 62 to 65, so I could qualify for Medicare, was a major accomplishment.
Like Guy Noir, I am still seeking the answers to life's persistent questions. Such as: What ever became of Wiki Wiki Dollars?
I am looking forward to this event, which is quite contrary to my feelings about Sequoia Union High School back when all I could think about was getting the heck out of there. Funny what 50 years will do.

I live in Stockton, CA and I will reserve my place in the next few days (my Central Valley husband, Sam, of 34 years drew a tag for antelope in Nevada so I will once again attend the reunion without him.... I've been torn between going with him or to my reunion).
I attended our 45th and it was a really, really special time (Leone and the others who put it and this together, you are amazing!!!).  In addition to a tour of our beautiful campus, I did a "walk down memory lane" and visited Hoover School and my old Redwood Village area...... I think that was the best part.... seeing friends from waaaay back and I look forward to reconnecting once again.  I've been in contact via email with some classmates who will not be attending.
I'm active in conservative Republican politics in my area (surprised I am able to walk upright rather than listing to the right; who would have guessed??) and as a "kept woman" enjoy the freedom to do what pleases me.   Frugal to the core, I'm not one to spend freely and I enjoy finding thrift store and garage sale bargains.   We have three daughters, five grandchildren, and one miracle great grandson who calls me GeeGee.  He is a total delight!  Since my goal in life was to be a 'housewife'....... I can declare myself a success.  Isn't that cool!  I dallied in retail employment, a federal government job for 15 years and our insurance brokerage (I worked in it as support staff for about 8-9 years) before I "retired".   I would love to see or hear from my eighth grade boy friend, David Garcia (he was such as sweet boy) just to know he is (as I would expect) happily married.

Getting older and "growing up" is way cooler than when we may have been stupid kids!  My memory and lack of yearbooks (mine were destroyed in a fire) makes it difficult to put faces to names but I'm smiling as I write, thinking warm memories and looking forward to another walk down memory lane.  Uniquely me and content in my ever flabbier skin... (I thought that only happened to old people).  If you are not atttending, contact me, anyway.

After graduation, I attended CSM and received my Associate of Arts degree in art, then attended San Jose State for one year befor deciding to enter the Army National Guard as a cook, to get my military oblijaton out of the way, before moving to San Francisco in 1963.
I've had numerous jobs since moving here, including driving a Yellow Cab, selling insurance, moving and storage sales, and a custodian for the elementary school where our four children attended.
I recently decided to quit the custodian  job to start my part time  tree trimming business.
Since I love opera with a passion, the San Francisco Opera helps keep me here, and my wife doesn't want to move  with me to Redwood City.
I am currently singing with the San Francisco City Chorus, and am a long time volunteer with The Friends of the Urban Forest, a Class of '60  reunion volunteer, and am currently a board member of our alumni association.
The Sequoyah Statue Project is my current alumni association project, which you will hear about at the reunion.
I can't wait to see everyone in August.

It's so interesting for me trying to understand why I'm on the fence about this fifty-year get together.  Each of you has a story that, more than not, could be a movie or book. That's the haunting draw that makes me say I'll be there. I will be coming to hear about your lives and where you are in life's train ride. However, It pains me to know that so many have passed away including my old girl friend from our class, Virginia Johnson. About ten years ago, I began slowing that train ride down and started to savor life.  Now I find I have even less time to do all that I want to do. Family & friends, creative projects, travel and tennis—what to do but sleep less. Been married to Janet Ross (Class '63) for the last 32yrs. We have four kids with seven grad kids. Have a wonderful life now in Montecito, Santa Barbara.

I finally graduated in '67 and married Steve, a Boalt Hall graduate, and we travelled with the US Marines for 22 Years. I have basically been a homemaker all these years with a dabble in real estate and some occasional medical secretary work. We have 2 daughters, and even though we live in Virginia, one of them lives in Sacramento and the other in Portland. Steve still has his own practice here, but we come to CA at least twice a year and may move back eventually. I am looking forward to the reunion. I hope EVERYONE comes.

After graduating in 1960 I moved to Sacramento, made a poor marriage choice which ended in divorce.  Graduated from American River College with major in pre-school/child development.  Married a good man in 1971, and moved to Placerville, CA where he died in 1978.  We didn't have children, but lots of fun with other people's and riding motorcycles, river rafting, dancing, etc.  Aftrer his death, I went to work in the accounting field and moved to southern California in Oceanside and then to Escondido, which is about 30 miles NE of San Diego.  I've had a good life and look forward to seeing everone at the 50 year re-union in August.  See you then.

After Sequoia, I graduated from SF state and married my Burtie who, unfortunately died in Feb. of 2000.  We have twin daughters.  Min lives in Troy, New York and Cori and my only grandchild, Alexa, live nearby in Nevada City.  I still substitute teach, mostly at the local high school, Nevada Union, which, ironically, has a killer football program.  Go Cherokee!, Go Miners!  I have a 23-acre farm with cows (not mine) and, currently, seven pygmy goats, a burro and several thousand bob-white quail which represent a considerable investment due to start paying off soon. Otherwise, I am still about 16 inside.
